Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 August 2026

Footages is a footage manager for macOS built around a simple idea: your footage is yours. This policy explains what stays on your devices — which is essentially everything — and describes the one thing that leaves them: anonymous usage statistics.

Your footage stays on your devices

Everything you put into Footages lives on your own storage. Your video, photo and audio files stay in your folders on your disks, SSDs and NAS shares — Footages indexes them in place and never uploads them anywhere. The library database — events, keywords, ratings, titles, descriptions, notes, locations and the history of your imports — is stored locally on your Mac.

Footages has no accounts, no sign-in and no cloud sync. We have no servers that could receive your footage or your library, and therefore no way to access either.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand which features matter and where the app fails, Footages sends anonymous usage events to two analytics services: Google Firebase Analytics and Amplitude. This data cannot identify you: we never set a user identifier, and each service only sees a random identifier created for your installation.

Events are anonymous by construction — their parameters are limited to counters, yes/no flags, predefined category values, sizes and durations. The following is never sent:

  • file paths and file names;
  • names of your libraries, locations, events, keywords or categories;
  • any text you type — titles, descriptions, notes or search queries (at most, the app reports that a title exists or how long a query was);
  • URLs you download from;
  • error messages that could contain file paths.

Bulk actions are reported as a single event with a count — never one event per file.

Third-party services

Firebase Analytics (Google LLC) and Amplitude, Inc. process the anonymous events described above on our behalf, under their own privacy policies. We do not sell, share or disclose any data to anyone else, and no other third-party services receive anything from Footages.

Network access

Besides analytics, Footages connects to the network only when you ask it to: to download a file from a URL you provide, or to fetch on-device analysis models. Analysis of your footage — thumbnails, descriptions, transcripts — runs entirely on your Mac; nothing from your files is sent to any server.

Your rights

Since Footages does not collect or store personal data, there is nothing for you to request access to or deletion of. The anonymous events already sent cannot be traced back to you. If you have any questions about our data practices, we are happy to help.

Changes to this policy

If Footages gains features that change what data is handled, this policy will be updated before those features ship, with the revision date above. Significant changes will be called out in release notes.
